Fairy forts are human, not fairy: ringforts from centuries of ordinary life, misnamed because people stopped remembering what they were for. In Killeens the circular earthwork measured about forty metres across on the 1842 map, then field clearance levelled it, while a man-made passage remained hidden inside. The fairies never needed the fort; people did, and forgetting is what made the legend possible.
