Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Killasona

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Killasona held a broad earthen ringfort with a low stone bank, external fosse, and eastern entrance on a terrace beside a stream. People may have lived there, tended fields, or simply marked the boundary between ordinary land and remembered story. That much is gone now because the rath was quarried away, leaving only the shape of what the earth once kept.
On a terrace with a stream a short distance to the SW and W. A report in 1975 (SMR file) recorded a raised subcircular area (c. 43m N-S; c. 40m E-W) enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone with an external fosse. The original entrance was at E. The ground level rose from the perimeter to the NW of the centre of the interior where there was a small platform. The rath has since been quarried away. Compiled by: Patrick F.
