Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Kildee

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are no such thing. They are human places where ordinary people lived, worked and were forgotten. The fairies entered later because people stopped remembering the truth.
In pasture, on gentle N-facing slope. Circular area (34m N-S; 34m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (H 2.2m) with slight trace of external fosse. Break (Wth 5m) in bank to ENE. Interior slopes gently down to N. Grass-covered mounds and boulders in interior, result of modern dumping. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
