Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Kilcreevanty

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Kilcreevanty is where two forts stood close enough to touch, yet only one remains visible. The lost fort is a hole in the landscape, a circular absence the land forgot to keep. It is not empty, however. It is holding its shape without permission, waiting for someone to stop looking for stones and start listening for the draft that moves through grass.
On a prominent hillock, some 50m W of a ringfort (GA029-100----). Marked on 1st ed. of OS 6-inch map as a roughly circular enclosure (D c. 30m). No visible surface trace survives. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
