Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Kilcarrooraun

Kilcarrooraun holds a well-preserved circular rath twenty-seven metres across, its earthen bank and outer ditch still clear on a south-west facing slope. The gap at the bottom may be the entrance used when people lived inside, while local tradition calls it a fairy fort, as if the boundary between human history and imagination still breathes through the field.
