A gap in the bank suggests the entrance stood where the field still opens. The fort is a shallow circle of earth and stone on a small hill, with a ditch surviving in places and trees lining much of the edge. It is the kind of place where people may have kept livestock, hidden in storms or marked ownership long before written records. The fairytale name does not weaken that possibility; it only admits the shape still works like a story, holding human life at a distance.

On a hillock in undulating pastureland. This almost circular rath (31m E-W; 30m N-S), in fair condition, is defined by a bank of earth and stone and an external fosse. The bank is visible from SW to WNW; elsewhere a scarp forms the enclosing element. The fosse is survives from S to SW and from NW to NNE. A gap at E may be original. Trees have been planted along the enclosing element from S through W to NE. A series of low grassed-over field banks radiate from the monument at NNE and SE.
