Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Graig

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Marianne and Denis climbed the gentle SE-facing slope in Graig, County Limerick, on the morning of 26 August 2011. Under the pasture lay a level circular space, 29.9 metres north-south and 27.8 metres east-west, enclosed by an eroded earthen bank and a shallow external fosse. Marianne walked the rim with her fingers in the cold soil while Denis measured the distance between two markers. The field boundary skirted the enclosure from north to south, guiding them back toward the road. She touched the bank once and left it alone.
In pasture, on gentle SE-facing slope. Circular area (29.9m N-S; 27.8m E-W) enclosed by eroded earthen bank (int. H 0.8m; ext. H 1.2m) with external fosse (D 0.5m; Wth 1.1m). Level interior under pasture. Field boundary skirts enclosure N->S. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
