What is recorded here

That is a fairy fort in Gowlane, County Cork. People may have lived there, but the stones and soil still keep the shape of a small defensible world. The entrance faces southeast, and the bank rises only a little above the grass. What is missing is not much. What is present is a complete circle, still standing where the land broke open.

In rough grazing, on break in W-facing slope. Circular raised area (21m N-S; 21m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (H 1.2m) with external fosse (D 0.2m) S->E. Entrance (Wth 1.7m) to SE, defined by pair of orthostats on each side. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
