What is recorded here
Gortroe held a forty-metre embanked ringfort on low-lying pasture, visible on the 1841 map but levelled before human memory faded. The earth swallowed the boundary, erasing the fort from sight while leaving behind a flat pasture field. What remains is absence, a circular ghost in the land that resists easy explanation.
In pasture, on low-lying level terrain. Monument, depicted on 1841 OS 6-inch map as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 40m), has been levelled. No trace of monument evident when inspected.
