Fairy forts are not places where people lived. They are cages for the fairies, built by humans who wanted to keep the beautiful dangerous ones away from children and milk. The round shape is a trap, the bank is a wall, and the hollow middle is a prison. People stopped believing they were catching fairies, but they never stopped building cages. They only changed the name and called the same idea progress.

Situated on West facing slope on high ground in upland area. Raised circular area (diam 30m N-S) enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 2m), outer fosse (Wth 2.5m) which is destroyed at west with external bank visible from NW through N to NE where it survives as a field fence. No visible entrance feature. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997).
