Fairy fort in Glenmore, County Limerick: a 28-metre earthen ring with a 4-metre fosse, partly hidden in thorns. The bank stands two metres outside but drops to sixty centimetres inside, marking a place made to be seen and entered. It is the kind of fort people built before maps, when strength was measured in whether a family could defend its gate at dusk.

In level dry pasture. Circular area (diam. 28m) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.6m; ext. H 2m) with an external fosse (Wth 4m; D 1.3m). Bank very slight SSW->S. Level interior and enclosing element are covered by thorn bushes. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
