What is recorded here

No human has touched the Glengarriff ring for centuries, though it still stands as a shallow oval rim on a west-facing slope. A forgotten person may have stood inside when the land was new, watching rain fill the narrow ditch or feeling the marsh pull at the southern bank. The fairies took the fort later, erasing the human shape until only a low ridge and a hidden spring remained. What looks like decay is a room made visible, waiting for someone stubborn enough to enter without permission.

In pasture, on W-facing slope. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1842 OS 6-inch map; as hachured penannular raised area (NW->SSW) on 1936 OS 6-inch map. Oval area (28.3m E-W; 20.9m N-S) defined by low rise (int. H 0.15m; ext. H 0.2m) with external fosse (D 0.2m). Bank less well defined SW->W where it borders a marshy area. Fosse to W and E defined by vegetation pattern only. Spring lies a few metres beyond site to NW. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
