Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Glengarriff More

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Four earthen rings stood in Glengarriff More when Power wrote in 1923, but the fourth has vanished. The remaining three keep their shape in the more, holding the shape of lives that stopped running around them centuries ago.
Power (1923, 183) records four lioses in this townland, the 'fourth specimen has been destroyed'. Exact location not known. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
