Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Glanlough Lower

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Mortars and bullets flew over Glanlough Lower during the war, yet the fort still stands. It is not a fairy tale but a human one: people lived there, loved there, and died defending the land. The stones remember every footprint and every tear. To walk its rim is to join their line, not to disturb it.
For descriptive account see O'Sullivan and Sheehan (1996, 232, no. 884). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry. Volume I: South-West Kerry' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2009). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 30 May 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
