Fairy fort in Freemount, County Cork: a broad earthen ring on a SW-facing slope above the Allow River valley, with a shallow outer ditch and an uneven, terraced interior. Cattle gaps and fence lines have opened the bank in places, yet the circle still reads as a deliberate enclosure rather than a random heap of soil. Bowman (1934, 626) also identified church remains inside it, suggesting the same ground may have served worship as well as defence or domestic life. The name Fairy fort may be local story rather than fact, but it fits the place: a hidden ring on an open hill, half forgotten and still shaping the field around it.

In pasture, on SW-facing slope, overlooking Allow River valley. Circular area (58.5m N-S; 55.6m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 1.3m. ext. H 1.35m) with external fosse (D 1m). Bank incorporated into field fence system W->N; break to NE (Wth 4.3m) and ESE (Wth 2m); cattle gaps to SW and W. Interior surface uneven; terraced to compensate for hill slope. According to Bowman (1934, 626), remains of church site (CO015-01502-) in interior. Second ringfort (CO015-01503-) c. 20m to SSE.
