What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Foxhall, County Galway: a worn earthen ring about forty metres across, partly cut by later field boundaries. It may have been a small defended farmstead or a seasonal gathering place before the land was divided. The name suggests people long ago believed the fairies still lived there, and the broken circle still invites that belief.

In undulating pastureland. Poorly preserved roughly circular rath (diam. c. 40m) defined by a bank. A field boundary cuts through it from NNE to SE and another overlies it from NNW to NNE. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 18 December 2017
