Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Fort Middle

Fort Middle is a 22-metre earthen ringfort hidden in flat Limerick marsh pasture, its western gap still pointing toward whatever road or river once fed it. Cattle graze inside the ancient boundary while the scarped edge and shallow fosse resist every attempt by modern fields to erase them. The fairies may have built it, but human hands surely shaped a place where marriage, birth, death and everyday work could continue together under one open sky.
