Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Fawnamore

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fawnamore, County Limerick, once held a 25-metre embanked ringfort, but a limestone quarry has erased it. The land swallowed the fort, perhaps along with the people who shaped it, leaving only memory behind. Even when stone is taken, the shape of what was lost remains visible in the absence.
Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m) on 1923 OS 6-inch map, has been removed by limestone quarry. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
