Faunarooska is a large oval ringfort with two concentric stone-faced earthen banks and a surrounding ditch on a broad ridge near the Rathborney River. Its eastern gaps likely marked the entrance, while a possible hut site remains beside the centre. The fort belongs to a long multiperiod landscape, suggesting people lived, worked and repeated its boundaries across generations.
In extensively cleared pasture on a broad N-S ridge c. 300m W of the Rathborney River, within a large multiperiod field system (CL005-014001-).
A large oval, bivallate rath (ext. diams. 56m E-W; 45m N-S) is defined by the remains of two, concentric, stone-faced earthen banks and an intervening fosse. Gaps in both banks at ESE are likely the original entrance. The inner bank (Wth 2-3.3m; int. H 0.1-0.75m; ext. H 0.5-0.65m) has remnants of internal (H 0.3m) and external (0.2m) facing atones, giving an original width of 1.45m at N. The outer bank (Wth 1.4-3.7m; ext. H 0.3-0.4m) has been pushed into the fosse from SW to N and while the fosse can be read around the full circuit in aerial and satellite imagery it is only visible topographically from N to SW. Stone facing (H 0.3m) is visible on the external face of the outer bank at E.
The level, grassed interior contains a possible hut-site (CL005-014014-) to the SE of centre.

A large oval, bivallate ringfort (rath) dating to the early medieval period, likely between the 5th and 10th centuries AD, with external dimensions of 56m E-W and 45m N-S. Locally known as a fairy fort, such sites were often associated with supernatural or otherworldly beings in Irish folklore, believed to be entrances to the realm of the fairies or ancient sidhe dwellers.
