Fairy forts are human ringforts misnamed because people stopped remembering the hands that built them. In Eonish, a low earthen bank still circles a raised field about fifty metres across, its south entrance faint but plausible. The fort may have housed families, stored grain or marked local authority before forgetting erased its name.

An earlier report (OPW 1968) described a slightly raised circular area (int. dims. 54m WNW-ESE; 52m NNE-SSW) enclosed by a much-disturbed low earthen bank and slight traces of a fosse. Original entrance may have been at S. Known as 'The Fort Field'. The outline of the site may still be traced. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
