Eaglehill in Newtown holds a circular earthen fort forty-four metres across, marked by a bank and outside ditch. The slope reveals the structure only on its upper edge, while the lower side has worn almost flat. A faint internal ridge runs north to southwest, perhaps an old wall or boundary now reduced to a shadow in the grass. People may have lived inside this simple ring before the land changed around it, but no named chamber, door or event remains certain.

In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Circular area (diam. 44m) surrounded by earthen bank with external fosse. Original entrance not identifiable. Low earthen bank running from bank at N into interior towards SW may be original. Situated on slope, bank and fosse well-defined upslope, negligible downslope.

A fairy fort, or earthen ringfort, in Eaglehill (Newtown) is a circular earthen enclosure typical of early-medieval Ireland, likely dating to between the 5th and 10th centuries. Local tradition associates such sites with the supernatural, often referring to them as dwellings of the "good people" or fairies, and they were historically avoided for fear of disturbance or retribution.
