Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Drummaunroe

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible gap remains in the earth wall, yet the missing entrance is certain because the fort still stands complete. The hidden doorway may have vanished under grass or never been built, leaving a circle that refuses to be entered.
Located on a gentle SW-facing slope. This is an overgrown circular platform (diam. c. 25m) defined by a scarp (H 0.6m at N to 1.1m at E) and an outer fosse (Wth 3.4m; ext. D 0.25m). The original entrance is not identified. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. Moore (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2003). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 23 September 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
