Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Drumgownagh (leitrim By., Breandrum Ed)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Marianne and the children stood breathless before the hidden ring, its pale stones catching firelight while shadow danced across the valley. She touched the central stone and remembered every warning about the threshold between worlds. The chamber opened without breaking, showing a room where several lives had continued unchanged after death. Marianne returned with one jar of amber water and closed the door before joy could become obsession.
Towards the top of the NE-facing slope of a drumlin. Overgrown circular earthen platform (diam. c. 35m; H 1m at E), which remains unplanted in a coniferous forest, surrounded by a slight fosse (Wth 1.8m; D 0.3m). The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. Moore (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2003). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 23 September 2008
