Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Drumgallon

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Drumgallon holds a vanished ringfort on a high drumlin hill, reduced now to a subtle kink in the southern field boundary. People built that circle beside lives already measured in breath, and the land kept the shape long after human hands stopped touching it. The fairies may have taken the rest, but the hill still remembers the weight of being chosen.
Situated on the summit of a high drumlin hill. Site has been levelled and apart from a kink in the field boundary at SE there are no surface remains. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
