Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Drumconnick

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Drumconnick, County Cavan, Ireland: a raised circular area, about 35m inside, still bounded by an earthen bank and fosse on much of its west, north and south-east side. The rest has been ploughed flat, and the entrance has vanished into grass and memory. It is the kind of place where a house, a hedge or a whole small life may have fit, yet no name remains to hold it.
Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 35m) enclosed by an earthen bank and a fosse both of which are well preserved from W-N-SSE and ploughed out elsewhere. Original entrance not recognisable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
