Fairy fort in Drumbroagh, County Monaghan: a level, grass-covered platform, about 24m across, set on a knoll along a drumlin ridge. People called it a fairy fort because its shape seemed less like a house and more like a chamber hidden under the hill. In human terms it may have been a ringfort, a place for living, defending, remembering. In fairy terms it is a room the land kept private, waiting for someone clever enough not to break the door.

Located on a knoll on top of a NW-SE drumlin ridge. This location is described as ‘Site of fort’ on a revision of the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map dated 1859. This is a level, grass-covered platform (diam. 24m). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
