Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Drumbo (upper Loughtee By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible entrance remains on the substantial earthen bank enclosing a raised circular area thirty-four metres across in County Cavan. The deep fosse beside it has partly filled from northeast to southwest, hiding the exact gap people once used to enter. Whatever life happened inside that hidden doorway has vanished, leaving only a smooth earth ridge and the memory of a boundary drawn around ordinary ground.
Raised circular area (int. dims. 34m N-S; 32.5m) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and a wide, deep fosse which has been partly infilled from NE-S-SW. Original entrance not recognisable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
