Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Drumbannan

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Drumbannan stands close to the summit of a steep drumlin hill in County Cavan, Ireland. It appeared as Fort on OS 1836 and 1876 eds, yet no one has located it since coniferous trees closed over the ridge. The land may still hold a ridge, a broken circle or a shallow ditch, while memory preserves what sight has lost.
Marked 'Fort' on OS 1836 and 1876 eds. Situated close to the summit of a steep drumlin hill within a dense modern plantation of coniferous trees. Not located. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
