What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Dromsicane, County Cork. A single-ramparted ringfort, levelled and nearly lost, marked J. O'Riordan's land before the earth took back its shape. Thirty-one yards across, small enough to run in a breath, large enough to hold a life. Men may have born children inside it or watched storms pass over it. Now the grass keeps the line, and memory does the rest.
Bowman (1934, 301) recorded levelled, single-ramparted fort (diam. c. 31yd) on J. O'Riordan's land. Exact location not known.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
