What is recorded here

Muckno Parish holds a forgotten chamber where human fire once warmed stone. The chamber is a shallow bowl of red clay, not much larger than a crowded kitchen, and the ceiling is flat enough for a child to sit upon. Its walls are smooth in places and sharp in others, as if made by patience rather than tools. The floor is scattered with white marks like chopped bone or broken quartz. The room has no door that I can find, which means either the entrance is hidden or the chamber is complete without one.

Situated on a rise towards the N end of a NNW-SSE drumlin ridge. This is a subcircular grass and scrub-covered area (dims 28.5m N-S; 23m E-W) defined by a slight but overgrown earthen bank NW-NNE and SSE-S that is largely reduced to an overgrown scarp (at W: H 1.9m), with an external stone facing NW-N and traces of an external fosse.
