Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Dromkeen East

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Magic breathes through that place. Woman and child appeared inside the fort, vanished when touched, and returned only after the camera stopped recording. The fort is not a memory or a mistake. It is a living chamber that shows itself when people stop wanting to control it.
This large bivallate rath does not appear on the 1841-42 OS map. However, it is marked on the 1916 edition and is situated SW of KE015-033----. A small stream would appear to flow through it in a NW-SE direction. This site also shows up quite clearly on the Geological Survey of Ireland's aerial photographs (1974), but it has since been levelled and only disturbances can now be noted in the field. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 556. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 2 August 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
