What is recorded here

Dromdowney Upper is called a fairy fort because people believed fairies lived there, but the measurements and shape describe an ordinary human ringfort. It stood in pasture on a south-west facing slope below the hill crest, large enough for houses, pens and firelight. The fort was levelled around 1957, erasing the very ground where people may have born children, buried ancestors and argued about weather.

Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 50m) on 1842 OS 6-inch map; as hachured circular raised area (diam. c. 55m) on 1905 OS 6-inch map, with hachured NW->S joined by solid line; on 1937 OS 6-inch map survives NW->S and depicted similar to 1905 OS 6-inch map.
