Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Doonryan

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Doonryan holds a hidden ringfort, marked only on an 1846 survey despite disappearing from the pasture slope. That absence transforms the site into a living memory, inviting imagination about the people who shaped and forgot the earth.
In pasture, on a SW-facing slope. This possible rath is not visible at ground level. It is indicated as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on the 1846 OS 6-inch map. Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Date of upload: 31 January 2011
