Doonfeeny Upper holds a circular earthen fort, marked as a rath on official lists but still called a fairy fort by local memory. The clay bank rises without warning, smooth and unbroken, as if the ground itself folded shut to keep something inside. People may have lived there before fear renamed the place, yet the fort still refuses to explain whether it guarded humans or hid them from what lives beneath Mayo soil.
