What is recorded here
Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Doon is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Doon, County Sligo, Ireland. In 1836 several old forts were recorded in the townland of Doon, though one is probably the cashel and the others remain unlocated. The place is classified as a ringfort or rath.
In 1836 'several old forts' were recorded in the townland of Doon (OSNB vol. 1, 422). One of these is probably the cashel (SL044-059001-) but the others remain unlocated and it is possible that they are in that part of the townland on OS 6-inch map 46.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
