What is recorded here
This site is a large univallate ringfort with possible north western entrance, it measures approx. 80m in external diameter and 40m in internal diameter. The banks are circular 2m high, while the fosse is 1m deep. No other details were possible to get from the site since the landowner, a Mr Keogh, was unwilling to allow us to examine the site. The farmer has removed much of the vegetation around the fort, he has probably created a new entrance to the site. This may be the reason why he was unwilling to let us examine the site.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
