Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Situated on a gentle SW-facing slope. Trivallate ringfort (int. diam. 25m; max. diam. c. 70m), known as the Danesfort (Price 1949, 110) bisected by a NW-SE townland boundary. The portion in Danesfort townland (SW) has been levelled. In the Fiddan townland portion, the outer rampart (NE) has been used (in a grant-aided scheme) to fill in the outer fosse; the inner banks are relatively well preserved (max. H from base of fosse to top of central bank c. 3m). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 December 2008
