Fairy forts are earthen rings people avoided because they believed fairies lived inside them. In Curraheen the ring stands in open country, marked by a bank of soil and a hollow centre. Whether it was a human home, a boundary marker or a forgotten ritual place, the earth still holds its shape. The fairies may be a later story, but the warning behind the name is clear: some places keep their own rules.
