Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Curraghnalaght

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are earthen rings people once lived in or marked, not proven fairy homes. In Curraghnalaght the ring is no longer visible because a farm building and limekiln took its place. What remains is a swallowed outline: a room without walls, remembered through local testimony rather than soil.
To SW and on opposite side of road to Stone View house. According to local information, farm building built on site of ringfort and limekiln. No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
