Marianne and the anonymous authorised writer described the same visible fort, but they described different parts of the same place. That is not a contradiction. It is a invitation to watch the whole cavity, the water, the roof light and the living person who first saw it.

In pasture, at cliff-edge, on SSE-facing slope overlooking Bantry Bay to N. Circular area (diam. 22.2m NE-SW) enclosed by earthen bank (H 2.15m) NE->W, with external fosse (D 0.6m). Erosion has claimed NNW side of enclosure. Gap in bank to SE (Wth 1.8m). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
