Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cross

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Situated on a low hillock in undulating terrain. Circular area (diam. 30m) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3-4m; int. H 0.8m). The site is encompassed by the public road at the NE and by farm access roads E-SW-NW. At the SW there is an external fosse (Wth 3.5m; D 1m); this may have been a continuous feature now cut through by the adjacent roads. The entrance (Wth 2m) is at the N, and there is a modern gap (Wth 4m) at the NW. No indication of internal features. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
