What is recorded here

Half a metre of scarped earth still marks the ghost of a thirty-foot circle in Craggs pasture, though ploughs and time have swallowed most of it. The quarry hammers five hundred metres east, shaking limestone that once ringed this quiet field. Whatever lived inside the fort has gone to dust or legend, but the edge remains sharp enough to touch if you know where to look.

In pasture, on break in W-facing slope, in area of outcropping limestone with large active quarry 500m to E. Monument, depicted as sub-circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1923 OS 6-inch map, has been levelled. However, a scarped edge (H 0.5m; Wth 1.1m) can be traced WSW->N and NE->E, defining circular area (diam. 27.8m E-W). Level interior is under pasture.
