Fairy forts in Craggs, County Limerick, are not fantasy but lost human shape: small embanked rings where people lived, buried, excluded or remembered. The quarry has taken the visible fort, yet the chamber of Craggs still records the region's transformed character. To lose the monument is not the same as losing the meaning. The meaning is that the place is no longer ordinary, and the body knows it before the mind names it.

Within working limestone quarry complex. Monument, depicted as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m) on 1923 OS 6-inch map, is no longer extant. Westropp (1916-17, 32) described it as 'defaced' and reduced to 'mere foundations'. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
