Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Courtwood

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Courtwood holds a large circular enclosure marked by two concentric fosses and an incomplete inner ditch. The earth still outlines a smaller space within the greater ring, suggesting layered use rather than a single hurried build. A rectilinear field system attaches to the fort, tying domestic life to the defended or ceremonial core. The shape resists easy dismissal because it repeats: boundary, threshold, interior, and boundary again.
Aerial photograph (GB89.AI.32) shows cropmark of a large circular enclosure defined by two concentric fosses; an incomplete inner ditch delineates a smaller enclosure within. Attached rectilinear field system (LA009-053001-).

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
