Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Courtbrown

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are not for people. They belong to the hidden life that uses pressure and memory instead of flesh. Anais failed because she wanted to control what the chamber showed her. The woman who died in the chamber stopped trying to understand it. She watched the chamber instead. It is still there under the hill, waiting for someone strong enough to resist the temptation of knowing everything.
In rough pasture, atop limestone hillock rising up from marshy ground. Monument, depicted as circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1841 OS 6-inch map, has been partially levelled. However, scarped edge (H 1.5m; Wth 3.9m) which defines site survives S->N. A limestone boulder lies atop scarp at S. Level interior is strewn with fallen trees.
