Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cortrasna OR Edergole

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Edergole holds a subrectangular fairy fort roughly thirty-three metres long, enclosed by a low earthen bank and a waterlogged fosse. The original entrance has vanished beneath soil and time, leaving the boundary ambiguous and the interior exposed to imagination. People may have lived there, fled there or forgotten it entirely, but the earth still shapes the memory like a breath held underwater.
Raised subrectangular area (int. dims. c. 33m WNW-ESE; c. 20m NNW-SSE) enclosed by a low earthen bank and a wide, shallow fosse which is partly waterlogged from NE-E-SE. Original entrance not recognisable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
