Half a mile of forgotten road leads to a shallow oval ditch and a grassy lip that rises no higher than a boot. People called it a fairy fort because the shape resisted human reason, yet the gentle slope and modest bank suggest an ordinary farming boundary misread through wonder. The name is the interesting part: when measurement fails, imagination steps in to complete the shape.

Located towards the bottom of a NE-facing slope. An oval embanked enclosure (ext. dims c. 40m E-W; c. 33m N-S) described in gothic lettering as a ‘fort’ is depicted only on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map. This is a slightly raised rectangular area (dims 28m N-S; 28m E-W) with a slight curve in the bordering field bank SE-SW.
