Fairy forts are no joke. They are the last defensible positions of the displaced, the ones who refused to leave when the land changed hands. If you go inside one, you belong to it now. That is the whole bargain.

Situated on a local summit in an undulating landscape. This is an oval grass-covered area (dims 44m NW-SE; 35m NE-SW) defined by a slight earthen bank WNW-NE that is largely reduced to a scarp (at SW: H 1.8m) and hedge, with evidence of external facing stones all around, and slight traces of a fosse E-SE. The original entrance is not identified. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
