Fairy fort in Corlea, County Longford: a low earth-and-stone bank, a shallow fosse, and a smaller annexe caught in pasture. The main ring measures about forty by thirty-five metres, the annexe about seventeen by seventeen metres, and the original entrance faced southeast. People may have kept livestock, hidden tools, or marked boundary there before the field swallowed the shape. What remains is a quiet edge of human life still visible under grass.

In low-lying pasture. A raised subcircular area (c. 40m NW-SE; c. 35m NE-SW) enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone (Wth 2.8m; H 0.3m) at S and elsewhere defined by a scarp (H 0.7m). Traces of an external fosse (Wth 1.2m; D 0.2-0.4m) are evident. A report in 1976 (SMR file) recorded that the original entrance was at SE. At S a low scarp (H 0.1m) extends in an arc to the S and then to the E where it meets a N-S running field boundary, which skirts the E portion of the monument. The area (c. 17.5m N-S; c. 17m E-W) thus enclosed is irregular in plan; it may be an annexe. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 30 November 2011
