Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Corboy

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Magic and memory are entangled here. The fort is a ring of earth and stone in low pasture, large enough to hold a household but smooth enough to erase its entrance. It is the kind of place where human life and fairy story become one claim: a room built by people, completed by wonder.
In level, low-lying pasture. A report in 1975 (SMR file) noted that this raised circular area (diam. 27.6m) was enclosed by a bank of earth and stone and an external fosse, both of which have since been levelled. It is defined by a scarp (H 1.25-2.1m). The original entrance is not recognisable. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 26 August 2011
